נָבִיא מִקִּרְבְּךָ מֵאַחֶיךָ כָּמֹנִי יָקִים לְךָ יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ אֵלָיו תִּשְׁמָעוּן. כְּכֹל אֲשֶׁר שָׁאַלְתָּ מֵעִם יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ בְּחֹרֵב בְּיוֹם הַקָּהָל לֵאמֹר לֹא אֹסֵף לִשְׁמֹעַ אֶת קוֹל יְהוָה אֱלֹהָי וְאֶת הָאֵשׁ הַגְּדֹלָה הַזֹּאת לֹא אֶרְאֶה עוֹד וְלֹא אָמוּת. וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֵלָי הֵיטִיבוּ אֲשֶׁר דִּבֵּרוּ. נָבִיא אָקִים לָהֶם מִקֶּרֶב אֲחֵיהֶם כָּמוֹךָ וְנָתַתִּי דְבָרַי בְּפִיו וְדִבֶּר אֲלֵיהֶם אֵת כָּל אֲשֶׁר אֲצַוֶּנּוּ.

Deuteronomy 18:15-18

The Lord your God will establish a prophet, like myself; him you shall listen to. This is just what you asked of the Lord your God at Horeb, on the day of the Assembly, saying, 'I don't want to hear the voice of God, my God any more, or see this great fire any more, so that I will not die!' The LORD said to me: ‘They have spoken well! I will raise them up a prophet from among their brothers. I will put My words in his mouth, and he will tell them everything that I command him.'

 

נדרים ל״ח א:ז׳

אמר רבי יוחנן: אין הקב"ה משרה שכינתו, אלא על גבור, ועשיר, וחכם, ועניו. וכולן ממשה.

 

Rabbi Yochanan said: God only allows His presence to rest on a person who is strong, wealthy, wise and humble. All of these requirements are derived from Moses.

 

א. מיסודי הדת לידע שהאל מנבא את בני האדם. ואין הנבואה חלה אלא על חכם גדול בחכמה גבור במדותיו ולא יהא יצרו מתגבר עליו בדבר בעולם, אלא הוא מתגבר בדעתו על יצרו תמיד והוא בעל דעה רחבה נכונה עד מאד.

It is one of the principles of faith to know that God communicates to man via prophecy. In order to receive prophecy, a person must be extremely wise, a master of his emotions, and unperturbed by his evil inclination in worldly matters. He must constantly control his evil inclination with his mind, and he must have an extremely broad and fine mind

 

פרק ג 

(א) וְהָיָה אַחֲרֵי כֵן אֶשְׁפּוֹךְ אֶת רוּחִי עַל כָּל בָּשָׂר וְנִבְּאוּ בְּנֵיכֶם וּבְנֹתֵיכֶם זִקְנֵיכֶם חֲלֹמוֹת יַחֲלֹמוּן בַּחוּרֵיכֶם חֶזְיֹנוֹת יִרְאוּ: 

(ב) וְגַם עַל הָעֲבָדִים וְעַל הַשְּׁפָחוֹת בַּיָּמִים הָהֵמָּה אֶשְׁפּוֹךְ אֶת רוּחִי: 

 

"When you open a book and see everything there, yet one thing twinkles before your eyes and pulls at your soul, and you feel what is touching you" (Hachsharat, 2)

כך כותב אדמו"ר ה'צמח-צדק' (ספר החקירה, מצוות עדות, סוף פרק ח, עמ' סה,א) על הבעש"ט ובעל התניא: "הבעש"ט ז"ל אשר כמוהו לא היה מימות הראשונים. פלאי פלאות, ניסים היוצאים מהטבע, היו נראים על-ידו... גם מזקני נ"ע שמענו עתידות קולע אל השערה".

התגלות גדולה של נבואה מופיעה גם אצל המשיח, אפילו קודם הגאולה, כהכנה לרוח הנבואית העצומה שתשרה עליו לאחר מכן (כפי שהרמב"ם מציין בהלכות תשובה פרק ט, הלכה ב, שהמשיח "נביא גדול הוא, קרוב למשה רבנו"). הוא מודיע בנבואה לעם-ישראל על הגאולה הקרובה ומכין את העם לקראתה.
