Lag B'Omer is one of the most auspicious days on the Jewish/Kabbalistic calendar when the greatest Kabbalist of all time, Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai died. In Kabbalah, the day of the passing represents a great connection between the worlds and a culmination of a life of striving, service, and enlightenment.
The Talmud teaches that 24,000 students of the great master of Rabbi Shimon called Rabbi Akiva died because they did not show ample love and respect for one another. The students stopped dying on Lag Ba'Omer, signifying a new approach to the study of Torah and the essential kernel of its teachings.
In his great saying "Love your fellow as you love yourself is the entire Torah", Rabbi Akiva pointed out that the love and brotherhood of man is the apex of Torah learning. Heeding the lessons of Lag Ba'Omer means connecting to the inner teachings of Rabbi Shimon which are found within the Zohar, the book of illumination, and living them in a truly infused life of consciously living our mission.
