The acronym of the month of Elul is from a verse in Song of Songs, "I Am To My Beloved and My Beloved Is To Me". "I Am To My Beloved"  is Kabbalistically referred to as "The elevation of feminine waters", accessing our own free will, digging deep within ourselves, connecting to our soul, and when we do this work we get a corresponding downflow of energy from above for the new year ahead.
