Surrounded by Light: A Guided Sukkot Meditation
Oct 01, 2026
During Sukkot, we leave our permanent home and enter a temporary dwelling. There is something very honest about that movement. Life changes. Our feelings change. So much of what occupies our minds is passing.
And yet, here we are.
I recorded this meditation as an invitation to sit with that awareness. To feel the body, notice the breath, and let the heart have a little space.
Within the embrace of the sukkah
The meditation begins with settling and breathing. From there, we return to the heart and contemplate the surrounding clouds of glory. We make room for the different qualities within us, reflected in the seven guests of Sukkot and the four species.
There is no perfect state you need to arrive in.
We do not have to push parts of ourselves away in order to be present. We can come with what we are carrying and gently allow ourselves to be here.
Listen to the meditation
Allow about fifteen minutes. Find a comfortable seated position, in your sukkah if possible, or wherever you have a quiet place to practice. Let the pauses give you time. There is no need to hurry through them.
This meditation is a Sukkot gift from Kavana Academy. You are welcome to share this post with someone who might appreciate a moment of stillness.
May this be a holiday of joy, presence and togetherness for you and your loved ones.
Chag sameach,
Rabbi Amichai Cohen
